Principles of Assessment

'Assessment is at the heart of teaching and learning'

  • To share learning goals with pupils and actively involve them in their own learning through next steps which focus on specific tangible objectives, in order to improve and become independent learners

  • Assessment feedback to pupils should inspire greater effort and belief that, through hard work and practice, more can be achieved

  • Assessment objectives set high expectations for learners

  • Assessment embodies, through objective criteria, a pathway of progress and development for every child

  • Assessment is honest and judgements are moderated to ensure accuracy.  Achievement is placed in context against nationally standarised criteria and expected standards

  • Our assessment systems allow meaningful tracking of pupils towards end of key stage expectations of the curriculum, including regular feedback to parents, governors and external agencies

  • It is inclusive of all abilities, giving early recognition of pupils who are falling behind and those who are excelling, in order to plan and deploy resources effectively

  • Assessment is free from bias and reliable
